May News: Alchemy Design Award is delighted to offer Support Membership to this year's Design Awards

Organised by the publishers of Designer magazine, this prestigious annual event is renowned for recognising true excellence within the UK Kitchen and Bathroom Industry ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- May Theme: Our theme for May is ‘Home Nature': the concept of transporting the natural, outdoor world into the comfort and security of our own homes
A recent Alchemy-integrated project which drew on this philosophy is the Ladderstile House, Richmond Park (www.ladderstilehouse.co.uk) described by the design team as 'a quite exceptional property of great architectural and local importance juxtaposing the ultra modern with the traditional and environmental’
Bathed in light (320m² of glass panelling) and displaying an abundance of natural wood-types, Ladderstile has an organic feel perfectly complemented by the addition of:
- a Teuco Duralight® bathtub (PDF) ... ressembling stone in both looks and texture but avoiding the classic weight restrictions
- the d38 tap series by altro~supergrif ... inspired by the simplicity of a traditional water fountain and providing an understated yet iconic design solution (PDF)
Using 'hidden technologies', the Sorgente ('source') Spa recreates the visual and acoustic effects of a natural water spring
It features a central geyser jet, infinity-rim waterfall and Hydrosilence® patent whereby the whirlpool pump is effectively 'silenced', so all the bather hears is the blissfully soothing sound of bubbling water
The Sorgente also displays a unique cladding system, personalizable in any suitable material e.g. stone, marble or wood, thereby enabling it to blend seamlessly and unobtrusively into its own ambient surrounds (PDF) (DVD)
Using the iconic square as his shape of choice, eminent fashion designer Antonio MirĪ employs geometry to inspired effect in an Iroko-wood collection where parallel lines and multi-angles quite literally provide the building-blocks for design formation and technological mastery (PDF)
His collection of wash-basins. mirrors, storage solutions, taps and bathroom accessories embody that warm and earthy quality that only natural wood can provide
